Grammar help: if I'm making a family's last name plural, where do i put the apostrophe, if there is one?

Well, it depends. If there is more than one Smith family, then its Smiths', but if its just one family, then its Smiths. Unless, it is Multiple people named Smith, like a tree, then it would be the Smith's (tree's)
