Moving to Leeds - where to live?

I am moving to Leeds my wife will be studying at Leeds University so we would want something in easy commuting distance walking/cycling, we have an 18 month old daughter, so nice to have a small back garden for her to play in. I will work from home. Probably looking to buy. Any suggestions for a nice area?
