Do I have to worry about manually shifting gears myself in a Semi automatic car?

I know how to drive stick, and of course an automatic car. What a want to know is that in a semi automatic car do i have to worry about shifting gears, or will the car shift by itself. Does it depend on the car? If it helps I have a 5th Gen. Honda Prelude.
